1. Prime Location

Located just north of downtown Toronto, Lytton Park is a quiet and sophisticated neighbourhood that still enjoys easy access to city amenities. Lytton Park’s east end is bordered by the famous Yonge Street running through midtown Toronto, and the Ontario 401 Express is also a short ten-minute drive away. The neighbourhood is 10 minutes from the nearest hospital, 15 minutes from the closest shopping mall, and 5 minutes from the TTC station. Although these main thoroughfares and city hubs are a conveniently short drive away, Lytton Park itself maintains a peaceful and family-friendly atmosphere.

2. Stunning Natural Beauty

Residents who prize an active lifestyle have ample outdoor recreational opportunities at the 1.7-hectare Lytton Park green space. This gorgeous park houses the North Toronto Tennis Club, the Lytton Sunken Gardens, a children’s playground, and lawn bowling greens. The Chatsworth Ravine and Duplex Parkette provide additional park land.

3. An Exceptional Neighbourhood

Beyond its favourable location and natural beauty, Lytton Park’s community profile makes the neighbourhood one of Toronto’s favourites. AreaVibes, which assesses communities across Canada and the US, ranks Lytton Park as an “exceptional” neighbourhood. Lytton Park's crime rates are 60% lower than the Toronto average. This same report gives the neighbourhood an A+ for its amenities, an A+ for crime rates, an A+ for employment, an A+ for schools, an A- for user ratings, and a B+ for housing. While Lytton Park receives a lower ranking for cost of living, this is somewhat offset by the fact that the area’s household income statistics are 105% higher than the national average, while unemployment rates are 20% lower than the national average.

4. Highly Rated Schools

Lytton Park’s low crime rates and gorgeous parks have given it a reputation as a family-friendly neighbourhood, corroborated by the area’s outstanding public and private schools. The neighbourhood’s public schools include John Ross Robertson Junior Public School (established in 1921); Glenview Senior Public School (established in 1966, boasting a student body of 700 and three unique tracks: English, French immersion, and extended French); and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute (with an 80+ year history and over 1,267 students enrolled).

Private schools include Blessed Sacrament Catholic School (from kindergarten to grade 8) and Havergal College (an independent day and boarding school for girls from junior kindergarten through grade 12).

5. Vibrant Community Life

Even during the pandemic, Lytton Park’s vibrant community has found creative ways to keep local events in motion. These events feature a range of diverse activities, including a drive-thru ribfest, a farmers’ market pick-up, a small-group taste the world food tour, jerkfest 2021, an indigenous art show, outdoor music festivals, and much more. The neighbourhood’s emphasis on community may well be a natural outpouring of its emphasis on a family-friendly environment.

6. Top Rated Restaurants

Foodies will be happy to hear that Lytton Park is home to a vast variety of delicious cuisines. With Yonge Street bordering the area’s east end, fine dining is a short drive away. Community favourites include Roberto’s Italian restaurant, Uncle Betty’s American diner, Tio’s Urban Mexican, Byblos Uptown (modern Eastern Mediterranean food), North 44 (Continental cuisine), Sushi Shop, La Vecchia Restaurant Uptown, PUKKA PUKKA (modern Indian), Rollian Sushi, and so many more.

If you are looking for a more casual place to hang out and grab a drink, Lytton Park is also in prime location to some of the best Toronto breweries! You can go out with friends and family, grab a nice cold beverage and get some snacks to much on.

9. An Architecturally Rich History

Originally, the Lytton Park area was a 200-acre farm belonging to United Empire Loyalist John MacDougall. The neighbourhood’s first house - a Regency-style cottage that was added to throughout the years and now appears Georgian - was built in 1828. But while this cottage is one of Toronto’s oldest private residences, it is by no means the only architecturally interesting building in Lytton Park. At the site of today’s Glen Castle Street was an old castle called Glen Castle, or Ainsley Castle.
